Writing Workshop - Research Based Argument Essay - Self Selected Topic - Lesson 2
Today, you will start researching your topic. You will be given two days to collect your evidence. You will not finish collected all the evidence you need in those two days. As we continue with new lessons, you will be able to continue to do research and add more evidence.
You will need to gather evidence from different sources. Be thoughtful about what to include. Use the T-chart to collect your information. You should collect information for both sides of the topic you chose. You can focus more on evidence that agrees with your argument, but you should also have some good evidence that disagrees with your argument. It is important to know the opposite view point when you make your argument. You want to know what the "other side" is going to claim, so you can be prepared for it.
You can use Google search to start your research. Use various forms of resources like articles, videos, websites, and newspapers. You must also keep a record of the resources you collected any notes from. You can do this at the bottom of your T-chart or start a new Google Doc and call it argument essay resources. Just copy and paste the address of the site.
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
