Writer's Workshop - Veterans Day Lesson 1
Today, we will begin our Veterans Day essay.
First, let's build some background on Veterans Day by watching this Brainpop video.
Here are the requirements:
a) Topic: Honoring All Who Served
b) Typed using Google Docs
c) 5 paragraph essay
d) Times New Roman
e) 12 point
f) Double spaced
g) Use the rubric to make sure you included everything.
h) No name on essay
In order to write our Veterans Day essay we must do some research and take notes first, but how do you take good notes?
Watch this video on note taking.
Now that you have learned a little more about note taking, you are going to take some notes to start gathering information about Veterans Day so you will be able to effectively write your essay.
Watch this video, and take notes. You will use the research notebook to take notes. A good idea is to make a bulleted list. I will stop the video at certain points, so you can write down important information. You will also collect more information independently later as what we collect today will not be enough.
Hint: As you take notes think - What is Veterans Day, what have veterans sacrificed, how can veterans be honored?
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
