We have been using published stones to prompt our own writing. We have written stories in two different ways so far. First, we wrote from a different point of view. Then used our understanding of the plot and the character to extend a story.
Today we are going to learn how to write an original narrative based on the theme of another story. So, our original story will have the same theme as the story we read.
Original story with the same theme - This means to understand the basic elements in a story in order to determine the theme. Than writing your own story elements that follow the same theme.
Remember:
develop characters
describe the setting
identify a problem
build suspense
use action
use description
use dialogue
resolve the problem
end with a theme based message
Let's read, The Summer My Father Was Ten, and discuss some possible themes.
Let's use this theme for our lessons - Sometimes it takes more than an apology to make up for something we did that hurt someone else.
The boy did more than just apologize to Mr. Bellavista, he helped him rebuild a new garden.
When you are finished with the assignment, here is what you can do:
Just keep writing.
Keep adding seeds.
Add to a already started seed.
Decide to take a seed through the writer’s process.
Reread your writing.
Edit your writing.
Work with a writing partner (with permission).
NEVER say "I am finished"
You need to be writing for a minimum of 30 minutes.
