Character Analysis
Lesson 4 - Paying Attention to Descriptive Text
You've learned that paying attention to a character's emotional cues, interactions with others, and motivations are all windows into a character.
Parts of the text that lack action may also be windows into reading our characters. We need to pay attention to those long stretches of text and think about what they reveal to us as readers.
Passages indirectly related to characters can reveal a lot to us (examples: passages about the character's home or character's family). Passages that are very descriptive or are made of long stretches of the character's inner thoughts are also revealing.
Let's read the story, A Bad Road for Cats. Pay attention to long stretches of descriptive text.
You try it. Use the second descriptive text and write about what you can learn from it. Than find a third descriptive text from the story and add it to the last box (type it in) and write about what you can learn from it. Use the example to help you. Remember, you will need to make a copy and save it in your reading folder.
You can read for the remainder of the time. Do not forget to do an entry in your - Keeping Track of my Reading.
