Documentation //Class
The documentation of learning in the course is the most important part of your experience. It provides insight on what you’re working on, how you’re progressing, the machines, tech, tools, and techniques you are experimenting with, and your overall efforts in the class. This goes without saying that your overall assessment in the course is mostly based on a digital portfolio that is supported by the end product(s) or artifacts of that learning. Throughout the design process drawing diagrams, sketches, charts, and notes should also be collected in one place for future reference and design reflection. These can be scanned and added to your portfolio. //Class/Project Photos
Presentation of Learning - We want to share the highlights, challenges, breakthroughs, lessons learned, and final projects by designing slides that share both images (artifacts) and descriptions.
Documentation of Learning - We want to capture the entire design process. To do this we will use an online and collaborative digital file that can be easily created, modified, and shared both privately and publicly. For the sake of this course and other Fab Lab experiences, there are three different methods for creating, capturing, and sharing your work.
A. Course Portfolio Slide Deck - For entry-level Fab Lab Classes including; Art and Design, Coding and Design, Prototyping and Design, Fab Play Mini-projects.
B. Project Portfolio Slide Deck - To document a single project from start to finish with concept slides, progress slides, and final presentation slides. This could eventually become a very long slide deck and should be trimmed down for a condensed final presentation slideshow.
C. Blog, Website, Design Report, or Poster Presentation - You can build out a portfolio website using free web-based platforms like Wix, Google Sites(Makehaven Instructions), or GitHub Pages
(Adapted from Agency by Design)
A tool to support designing, documenting, assessing, and reflecting on maker-centered learning experiences.
What is the theme of your project and what was/were your objective (s) for the working session?
What did you do? (First consider how you are going to document and share the learning experience: audio, video, notes, photos, etc. Describe how you incorporated your
objectives)
How did it go? What did you learn? (Describe how this learning experience met your learning objectives. Were there any surprises that happened along the way? Also, describe one or two things you learned.
How do you know? (Use 2-3 artifacts from your documentation to serve as evidence or reflection points for the learning you described above. Be sure to add captions to each artifact
that help to place this documentation in context, and to emphasize any connections to your objectives)
What would you do differently? (Think about what you learned, and to what extent your goals/objectives were met. Describe what you might do differently if you were to do this working session again.
What will you do next? (Now take a moment to think about what you and your partner will do next. Based on the learning experience you just documented, what is the next activity related to your project that you’ll be experimenting with next?)
II. Final Post and Presentation Slide
At the very top of your project blog, you should include the following two components: (A) final summary write-up and (B) presentation slide/image. To get ideas for presentation slide layout visit: http://fabacademy.org/archives/2014/students/index.html
(A) Final Write-up - For the final post, you should summarize your project from start to finish. This is basically the abstract for your project and should be polished as it will be the first, and perhaps the only thing the viewers will read. Think, reflect, and make this meaningful.
What were your initial ideas and thoughts for the project?
Based on your initial ideas, what direction did you go in and why?
What learn along the way? (What are you good at, something new, something simple, tool, skill, technique, terminology)
Acknowledge work done by others, resources, tutorials, feedback, etc.
What did you wish you would have done differently at the beginning of the project?
What are you most proud of?
