For my final project, I will be creating a table for the study rooms in the library. I decided to create small tables because the school put beanbags in the rooms and you have to keep your computer on your lap and you have no hard surface to write on especially if you need your computer open when doing an assignment. I drew some thumbnail sketches for my table and honestly I loved every single one I drew because each of them would fit but I drew one that I thought everybody in the room could use. I choose a basic table with a cool design underneath it because the long table lets people not be crowded and can spread their stuff out. The hardest part of the final project was definitely coming up with something to design.
Here is my sketch of the table I will create for my final project. You can see that I am trying to make a small table. I decided not to draw each leg of the table because it would take forever to do. I am really hoping that this table when I prototype it will be small and not large. The hardest part of drawing this would be the legs because I did not have a ruler so I had to print an image out and use it as my ruler. I would say it worked.
Here is my cardstock prototype of the table I was going to create. I had to use tape on the bottom to get all four connecting pieces to stay together. That was definitely the hardest part when constructing this prototype. I think I could definitely try and find a new way to connect those four pieces together but it was the last day of class so I had to hurry. Another thing I would change would definitely be the height of the legs the table stands on because the people who will be using this table will not be able to use it.
Here is the cardboard prototype of the table I was going to design. You can see that I changed the design of the table because I was told that I would not be able to do the underneath part of the table to stand on. People also suggested that they like extend their legs but their legs under the table above would not let them do that. I thought the criticism of that was very good because I did not realize what students like to do when sitting at a table. The glue wasn't sticking very well so I had to tape the side for where it was going to be holding the side so that it would stand up correctly. I was not able to finish the under portion of the table because some of the cardboard squares did not get cut all the way. The hardest part of doing the cardboard prototype was definitely getting the glue to stick.
This is the laser cut and final part of the prototype of the table I was going to design for my final project. The hardest part of this step was the gluing again because the bottom of the table was going to bend so I decided to use tape on it so it would stay. I thought it would be fine because this was a prototype and not the actual thing. The most stressful part of the laser cutting portion was making sure that none of the parts of the prototype got cut off when cutting and that happened 2 times.
I was hoping to actually complete the bigger version of the desk but I was unsuccessful because we only had one more class to finish it. I was thinking of staining the table when it was actually made.
