This shelf is supported/connected to the wall by the two half circles that go through the actual shelves. It's not visible in the sketch but where the half circles connect to the wall there will be a bulge so that it's easier to get the shelf in the actual wall. The shelf itself will be around 24 inches long as to easily find studs and not just drill into drywall.

I've decided to make the shelf slanted and to curve the edges to match the supports

Today I made the first version of my inkscape model
The printed out cardboard shelf, not slanted like i wanted.
