GWPS school song - I'm Still Standing
Suggested Day of Learning
We are mindful of the academic load we place on students while at school, breaking up focussed academic time with conversation, movement and artistic learning tasks. With this in mind, we recommend 3.5 hours of academic learning each day.
Each child is different and has diverse needs, below is an outline of a possible structure for each day. This outline is a suggestion and can be spread out as per the needs of individual families.
9.00am – 10.00am: English learning. Reading, writing and/or spelling
10.00am – 10.10am: Brain food
10.10am – 11.00am: Specialist Learning (Art, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, PE or Mandarin)
11.00am – 11.30am: Break
11.30am – 12.30pm: Mathematics
12.30pm – onwards: Address other learning tasks as fits your child’s needs.
Please note:
Students should not be working for more than five hours each day.
It is not an expectation you sit with your child for these 3.5 hours, independent learning is a very important part of any curriculum.
When learning in an online environment, allow time to upload learning online.
This is a suggested outline, each team has created a possible structure that fits with the specific needs of the children within their level.
At school we use the strategy of ‘brain breaks’ to help support student engagement in learning. Brain breaks can be structured movement, eating a snack, playing a quick physical game or walking to have a drink. Anything that gives your brain a break from focussed academic learning is a brain break.
GoNoodle is an online resource with lots of brain breaks that engaged movement and/or singing that is used extensively at GWPS.
Children’s time at school is precious and we place a high value on this learning time. Thank you for providing this continuity while staying at home
