Marking
Learning Task: Chest and Overhead Marking
Purpose: To explore the 2 different ways to mark the ball.
Aim: To throw a ball up high in the air and mark it using both techniques; chest and overhead.
Things to focus on:
Keep your eyes on the ball at all times.
Make sure your body is positioned facing the ball.
Hands and arms stretched out.
Hug the ball (chest mark)
Spread your fingers wide (overhead mark)
Learning Task: Vertical Jumping
In AFL the players will often jump to mark the ball. They need to be able to jump very high sometimes!
Watch this video to remind you of the important features of a Vertical Jump.
Purpose: To develop your Vertical Jumping.
Aim: To understand the technique involved and practice doing some different types of jumps.
Things to focus on:
Bend you knees on your take off and your landing.
Swing your arms back as you bend down.
Swing your arms through and up high as you jump to help propel you higher and further.
Land on your toes and bend your knees to land safely.
Learning Task: Jump and Mark
Purpose: Develop marking together with handballing and kicking skills
Aim: To combine marking and jumping.
Please do this outside!
Things to focus on:
Taking it one step at a time.
Building in the learning throughout this week when performing the chest and overhead marks
Complete the steps within the video before moving to the next part.
Always land on your toes and bend your knees to land safely.
