Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Qs)

What if the timetable does not fit my family's schedule?

  • We understand families have diverse needs and lifestyles. It is completely understandable if students are unable to complete learning tasks on occasions due to other commitments. The provided weekly timetables are 'recommendations' from Level 6 teachers and should be used 'flexibly' with suggested time allocations in the learning plans.

  • Keeping to a normal routine, where possible, helps manage challenges which can manifest as moodiness or non-compliance. Try to keep the normal timings with children getting up and having breakfast and getting dressed ready to start their day.

  • Keeping to the normal recess and lunch times will keep their body clocks on track!

How do we balance screen time and break time?

  • A normal day at school involves several brain breaks as well as classwork and concentration. Spending the day in online learning will create fatigue in a different way for your child, so make sure that any downtime during the school day is spent with non-screen activities and as much physical play as possible.

  • Remember: it is common for this age group to relax using a screen which will be potentially ‘too much’ for one day. Talk with them about balance and what feels right for your family.

I am having digital accessing issues with logins and assignment submissions.

  • Most of the learning tasks and resources set for students utilise programs and platforms that they should be familiar with from school. Please check out the Troubleshoot Tutorials page before contacting your child's teacher.

Will my child receive any feedback from teachers?

  • Rest assured, all Level 6 teachers will endeavour to provide students with some form of feedback. This is one of the most pertinent aspects in any successful education but also particularly challenging in remote learning. The Level 6 teachers may trial different methods for their learners, for example, by writing to individuals in Edmodo assignments, recording audio-visual responses to Seesaw or setting predetermined successes and next steps with assessment checklists and rubrics.

How will this impact my child's reports and assessment results?

  • As mandated by the state department, our school still aims to report on students in writing twice a year. If there are any changes to the reporting release date or contents, you will be notified by our school principals via Compass. At this stage, all teachers will continue to track students against the Victorian Curriculum and school 'skill statements' (core knowledge, skills and capabilities). If there is insufficient evidence, students may have sections of their reports removed or indicated as N/A.

Is my child's privacy ensured with online platforms?

  • Yes, all of the main learning tasks and resources are provided on Edmodo as it is a private group that is only accessible with a code when unlocked by the teacher or administrator. When students submit learning products, these will only be visible by relevant teachers and parents. On Seesaw, videos will show up on the main page only when approved by the teacher. In regards to Edmodo and Seesaw codes, please act responsibly and avoid sharing them beyond our Level 6 and class communities.

My child has or needs sensitive information or confidential details.

  • Every learner has their own unique goals and needs. Each teacher will aim to communicate with learners and parents individually of their personal goals where necessary (in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and You Can Do It!). Similarly, students with Individual Learning Plans and those who are learning early levels of English as an Additional Language (EAL) will be contacted via email or phone. It is expected that they pursue alternative learning arrangements in place of all or parts of the uploaded learning programs.

What learning resources does my child require at home?

  • We have taken into account for each learning experience to be adapted for at home learning. Subject specific resources will be provided through learning experiences in the PowerPoints. The Level 6 teachers recommend that each student will have writing tools (e.g. pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, colour pencils/textas), A4 exercise writing books, grid books for mathematics - to ensure they are well supported. If you need support in obtaining these resources, please contact your child's teacher.
