Broader Advocacy

The TL profession continues to be in a position where many of us must advocate for our roles, our resources, our spaces and, by extension, for the rights of our students to access the specialist training that we can deliver.

What you can do:

  • keep abreast of the current research

  • enlist the support of family and friends in promoting the role of libraries and their TLs

  • do you have contacts in the media? Ask them to report on the diminishing status and value of TLs and school libraries

  • join one (or more) of the professional library associations and become involved with their advocacy teams

  • join your education union and engage with it regarding the current situation of TLs and libraries

  • join the Students Need School Libraries campaign

    • ask your local bookshop to support the campaign by displaying a SNSL poster or flyers

    • contact your P&C and make them aware of this campaign

    • use the resources found on this site to raise awareness

  • contact your local member and let them know what great things are happening in your library, enabling them to report this to the NSW Parliament. Better still, invite them to a school library event and showcase your space over a cup of tea
