Book Fairs

Book Fair providers are a matter of personal preference. Ask colleagues for their opinions if you are not sure of which to choose. Despite their inducements, you are not obliged to remain with any one provider, so shop around and try a few until you find the best fit for your students and your library.

Book Fair providers are listed alphabetically, not by preference or recommendation.

How do Book Fairs work at your school?

I let purchasing happen before school 8-8.30, then at both lunch breaks and then after school 3-4pm. I use my grade 6 students to help with the sales of the pencils, rubbers, posters. I do all the books. But the big thing I do is I make a bookmark with all the purchase dates and times for each student to take home. Parents love it. We are only a small school of 360 in a country area and last year I made over $6500 in the week. If you're using Scholastic, they should have given you an efpos machine to use. Good luck, it is an awesome way to get points for books.

Before school , one lunch break and after school - encourage parents before and after school

Make sure to have heaps of posters and novelty stuff to sell - they go like hot cakes.

I use to have a raffle - purchase over $20 your name goes is the raffle

Make sure they give you an eftpos machine to use.

I manage the book fair on my own. Only open for buying Thursday after school 3-6; this gives our students at after school the opportunity to come. Then Friday and Monday 3-5 pm. If you can get someone to help on the Thursday until 3:30 when there is a rush it helps. I do a lucky door prize for all students. During class time we only do wish lists. While only officially open for shopping in the afternoon, we do have some sales before school.

I have just done my first two days ever of book fair - yesterday and today

We open at 8:30-9:00 for parents and students. We have wish lists and looking/buying in designated library sessions. Open at lunchtime for buyers only - no browsers. And then from 3:00-3:30 for parents again. It is a crazy time, kids constantly losing money. Teaching kids about how much they have and what they can buy.... but it is fun.

We have a colouring competition in the first week and the winner of each grade gets a voucher to spend at the book fair for the second week.

We took photos of the book fair and posted it on our school fb page.
