Jae Rolt from Cessnock West PS suggests:
Do author / illustrator focus / comparison
Teach students how to use Oliver to find the books they want.
Discover an atlas
Discover a dictionary - it’s amazing how many kids have no idea how to actually find a word in a dictionary
Discover an encyclopaedia - just in case the power goes out!
I do a lesson where students grab a book from 590s and we work out what the Dewey numbers relate to
Explore how spine labels work; how they tell us where to put the book etc.
Find what the class is studying with their teacher and find all the books on that topic (first week), then look at the books, write up some key facts and then in another lesson learn how to re-shelve those books.

I would just read to them and do a book talk, promote the books in the library. We sometimes undervalue the benefits of reading to the kids even in stage 3. I am focusing on a novel for stage 2 and 3 and PRC picture books for K-2 this term. Then we are participating in the Little Scribe writing festival so will be doing some writing activities from the online resources.
