There are a number of copyright exceptions that apply to copying undertaken by TAFE and school libraries. This guide explains when each of these exceptions applies.

NCU has recently revised its CC Information Pack for Teachers and Students to incorporate the new CC 4.0 International Licence. The pack explains what CC is, how to find CC material and the best way to attribute CC material.

Not on SCIS?

One occasion, when cataloguing a resource you'll find it's not on SCIS. Whilst the team prefers to have the physical item to ensure they create the most accurate record, you have several options:

  • put it aside and check back over a reasonable space of time to see if it has been added

  • post the resource/s, an inventory and return address to SCIS at:

SCISNSW Cataloguing Team

NSW Department of Education, Level 2, 105 Phillip Street, Parramatta NSW 2150

  • Schools pay the forward postage, SCIS pays return postage

  • scan and email the following - front and back cover, title page, verso (ie. publication details page), contents page, the last numbered page (eg. vii, 234) and whether there are any illustrations

  • once the SCIS team has created a bibliographic record, this is then added to the SCIS database

Stocktake

Written by Julie Styles, Cataloguing Librarian, SCIS

With the end of the year fast approaching, now is an excellent time to consider stocktaking your library collection. You may want to stocktake the whole collection at once or do the fiction this year and the non-fiction next year. It all depends on how much time you have available and how much labour you have at your disposal.
