art elements - The building blocks or ingredients that make up all art. The elements of art are dots, lines, shapes, forms, space, textures, colors, values, and time (video and performance artwork).
balance - The way parts of an artwork work together so that the parts seem equal.
decorate - To add extra items to something to make it look more attractive.
fashion design - The art of applying design, aesthetics, clothing construction, and natural beauty to clothing and accessories.
pattern - A design made up of repeated lines, shapes, colors, or forms.
repetition - the use of lines, shapes, colors, or forms more than once.
rhythm - Repeating art elements (dots, lines, shapes, forms, space, textures, colors, values, and time) in various ways or the sense of movement created by repeated art elements.
textile - Manufactured cloth or other fibers.
weaving - An artwork made by lacing together (placing over then under) fibers such as yarn, thread, or strips of fabric. Rugs and baskets are kinds of weaving.
What do you notice about these artworks? Some artists use textiles, or cloth and other fibers, to make beautiful clothing.
Pictures and patterns on artworks are called designs. What patterns do you see on the clothing? How are the designs balanced?

Think about a celebration where you could wear a decorated vest.
Check list:
- Create a vest that shows balance.
- Show art elements and design principles on your apparel.
Make a vest from a paper bag. Cut a slit up the front. Cut holes for your head and arms.
2. Decorate your vest. Think about balance and emphasis. Glue on objects. Add some weaving.
Construct a balanced paper hat with construction paper using craft supplies and found objects to complete.
