Lesson 30: Digital Artwork

Objective: To design and create an original digital artwork.

Vocabulary:

Digital Art - An artwork that uses digital technology as part of the creative of presentation process.

medium or media - the different consumable materials or supplies that an artist uses to create an artwork.

mood - The way an artwork makes you feel or emotion the artist is trying to make you feel.

purpose - The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists, such as self-expression, narrative, info, time-piece, aesthetic, process, informative, social commentary, entertainment, design, etc...

tool - A device that helps to complete a task.

variety - A design principle used to add interest to an artwork by using many different objects and art elements (line, shape, color, form, etc...).

Computer Art

Computer software can do many of the things that pencils, paints, and markers can do. Art that is created on a computer or electronic device is called digital art.
Look at the digital art shown in No. 49D by Angelo di Cicco. What kinds of lines and shapes do you see? Point out the colors and textures. How did this artist add variety to the artwork?

Studio Time: Computer-Generated Artwork

Materials:

Pencils, Sketchbooks, Computer

Plan

Brainstorm some ideas for a design you can create on a computer. Sketch your ideas. Use simple lines and shapes
Check list:
- Create a digital artwork with available software or application.
- Use digital tools to make lines, shapes, color, and value.

Create

Choose one sketch to use as a guide.
Use the computer menu and drawing tools to make the simple lines and shapes from your sketch. Arrange the lines and shapes on the screen to match your sketch.

3. Add color to complete your design,

Reflect - Tell about your work.

Photograph and Submit your work on Google Classroom.

Photograph sketches as well as completed artwork.
"Add" (attach) to Google Classroom assignment.
"Mark as done" to submit your work for a grade.

Challenge: Computer-Generated Portrait

Create a portrait by importing a picture to a paint program then use drawing tools, filters, colors, and manipulate the image.
