Lesson 7: Outdoor Scene

Objective: To have the children use only warm colors or only cool colors to draw an outdoor scene.

Vocabulary:

cool colors - The cool colors are green, blue, and violet. These colors appear on one half of the color wheel. These colors create a feeling of coldness and calm/peaceful mood.

neutral colors - The neutral colors are black, white, brown, and gray. These colors are used to create tints, shades, tones, and intensity.

scene - A place where action, an incident, or something is happening.

warm colors - The colors red, orange, and yellow. These colors appear on one half of the color wheel. These colors create a feeling of warmth and energy.

Red, orange, and yellow are warm colors. They make a picture feel warm. Blue, green, and violet are cool colors. They can make an artwork feel cool.

Challenge: Animal Painting

Fold a paper in half, on one side paint an animal that lives in a cool place using cool colors and on the other paint an animal that lives in a warm place using warm colors.
