Pandemic Makeup for Force Table

Directions:

  1. Go to this simulation page: <PhET Vector Addition>

  2. Run the simulation and click "Lab"

  3. Drag a light blue vector from the right side, and put its tail on (20,15) on the rulers. Drag the tip to a random spot in the first quadrant. The tip should be to the right of, and above its tail. (Don't make it super huge) the tail should be at the coordinates (20,15)

  4. Drag a light blue vector from the right side, and put its tail on (20,15) on the rulers. Drag the tip to a random spot in the second quadrant. The tip should be to the left of, and above its tail. (Don't make it super huge) the tail should be at the coordinates (20,15)

  5. Write down the magnitude and trig angle of each vector. (Click on the vectors, the |v| is the magnitude, and (theta) is the trig angle - the angle Anti-Clockwise from the +X axis)

  6. Find the equilibrant for the two vectors you have. This will involve calculating the components of the vectors you have, and finding the components of the Equilibrant and finding an angle and a magnitude for the equilibrant. Do this on a piece of paper.

  7. Drag another light blue vector out, and place it with its tail on (20,15), and drag its tip until it is as close to being the equilibrant as possible.

  8. Click the "Sum <blue arrow>" box. If you did it right the sum will have zero length. Take a picture of your computer screen with your phone, take a picture of your work, and email them to me.
