PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH IN ADVENT LEADING TO CHRISTMAS

Father Dennis Hayes C.C.

Dear Saint Joseph most just most strong and most obedient to the voice of God speaking into your life.

You are a great model of faith and a defender against all despair and hopelessness for us.

Help us in this Holy Season of Advent leading to Christmas to welcome the source of our hope and Joy in Christ our Lord and Savior.

As the Christ Child was born to us in humility and poverty see O Saint Joseph that we welcome Christ as you did into our hearts.

Help to choose joy over sadness and forever be sealed in the virtue of hope that will lead us to everlasting joy and everlasting life.

Amen.

PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH - By Pope Leo XIII

O holy protector of the holy family, protect us children of the Lord Jesus Christ;

keep far from us the errors and evils which corrupt the world;

assist us from Heaven in our struggles against the powers of darkness.

And as you once protected the Divine Child from the cruel edict of Herod,

now defend the Church and and keep it safe from all dangers and threats.

Spread over all of us your holy patronage

so that by following your example and aided by your spiritual guidance,

we may all aspire to a virtuous life, look to a holy death,

and secure for ourselves the blessing of eternal happiness in Heaven. Amen

What Saint Brother Andre said about praying to Saint Joseph

“When you invoke Saint Joseph, you don’t have to speak much.

You know your Father in heaven knows what you need; well, so does His friend Saint Joseph.”

“Tell him, ‘If you were in my place, Saint Joseph, what would you do? Well, pray for this in my behalf.’”

To the people who came to him with their troubles — and thousands did —

the friend of Saint Joseph recommended the use of sacramentals, like Saint Joseph’s oil or a Saint Joseph medal.

Most of all, he recommended persevering and confident prayer, usually prescribing a novena to his powerful benefactor.

The following excerpt is taken from

Brother Andre: Friend of the Suffering, Apostle of Saint Joseph by Jean-Guy Dubuc,

The very year Alfred Bessette joined Notre- Dame College, in 1870, the Vatican officially chose Saint Joseph as the patron Saint of Canada.

For the young Brother the coincidence may have been striking.

At the outset, Brother Andre was not aware of having a special mission to fulfill within the Church. But he had found his goal in life :

he would promulgate the devotion to Saint Joseph; he would spread word of the saint's power and affection.

All of Brother Andre's actions, up to his death expressed his total confidence in Saint Joseph as well as his devotion the great saint, his friend.

Witnesses time and time again reported Brother Andre's most usual advice.

"He recommended very simple prayers such as

' Saint Joseph pray for me as you yourself would have prayed had you been here on earth, in my shoes, with my troubles .

Saint Joseph answer our prayers.... "

Or Brother Andre would say" Go and pray in front of the statue of Saint Joseph, and tell him,

'if you were in my place is there anything you would want done for you? Well, do just that for me....'

Again he might recomment this prayer:

"Saint Joseph, as you can see, I am the head of a large family.

Help me as you would have like to be helped yourself, had you been hereon earth, in my situation..."

Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Husband of Mary March 19 2012

The readings: 2 Sam. 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16; Rom. 4:13, 16-18, 22; Mt. 1:16, 18-21, 24a; (or Luke. 2:41-51a)

Pope John Paul II in his homily says: “The extreme discretion with which Joseph carried out the role entrusted to him by God highlights his faith even more, which consisted in always listening to the Lord, seeking to understand his will and obeying it with his whole heart and strength. This is why the Gospel describes him as a ‘just’ man. In fact, the just person is the person who prays, lives by faith, and seeks to do well in every concrete circumstance of life… Faith nourished by prayer…is the most precious treasure that Saint Joseph transmits to us.” For more click here

Memore to St. Joseph

Remember, O most chaste Spouse of the Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who implored your help and sought your intercession was left unassisted. Full of confidence in your power, I fly unto you, and beg your protection. Despise not, O foster-father of the Redeemer, my humble supplication, but in your bounty, hear and answer me. Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph for a Happy Death

O Blessed Joseph, you gave your last breath in the loving embrace of Jesus and Mary. When the seal of death shall close my life, come with Jesus and Mary to aid me. Obtain for me this solace for that hour - to die with their holy arms around me. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I commend my soul, living and dying, into your sacred arms. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph, faithful guardian and protector of virgins

O Blessed Saint Joseph, faithful guardian and protector of virgins, to whom God entrusted Jesus and Mary, I implore you by the love which you did bear them, to preserve me from every defilement of soul and body, that I may always serve them in holiness and purity of love. Amen.

Prayer to St. Joseph by Pope St. Pius X

Glorious St. Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in the spirit of penance in expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to gratefully and joyously deem it an honor to employ and to develop by labor the gifts I have received from God, to work methodically, peacefully, and in moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from it through weariness or difficulty to work; above all, with purity of intention and unselfishness, having unceasingly before my eyes death and the account I have to render of time lost, talents unused, good not done, and vain complacency in success, so baneful to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all to imitate thee, O patriarch St. Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity.

To St. Joseph for Protection

Gracious St. Joseph, protect me and my family from all evil as you did the Holy Family. Kindly keep us ever united in the love of Christ, ever fervent in imitation of the virtue of our Blessed Lady, your sinless spouse, and always faithful in devotion to you. Amen.
