Frank Duff

 A Living Autobiography

The articles by Bro. Frank Duff are, without the slightest doubt, together the mightiest written contribution ever made as a help to pastoral work, whether of priests or laity. They penetrate with a depth of insight, which can come only from a special charism of the Holy Spirit, to the very heart of the nature of the apostolate and its practical accomplishments. One can say of these splendid essays what one can say with truth of the documents of the Second Vatican Council that if they were to be fully implemented a new golden age would dawn for the Church all over the world"  Rev. Francis J. Ripley.

On Behalf of the Cause of Frank Duff

from Sile Ni Chochlain on behalf of the Cause of Frank Duff

An exerpt from FRANK DUFF MISSIONARY   Fr..Patrick O'Connor St. Columban's Missionary Society "I remember telling a French priest about the essence of the Legion, emphasizing that it was not education or intelligence that counted as much as the complete giving of oneself to the service of Our Lady and leaving the rest in her hands. He came to me a week later and said: 'Last week, after what you said, I decided to test your theory. There is an old lady down at the gate of our mission compound. She has been there for forty years without coming to Mass. My predecessor tried, I tried, the Sisters have tried to get some response from her. Last week I assigned two of the most unlearned old ladies in our praesidium to go down and talk to her. I told them to go as envoys of Our Lady. After five minutes they were back in the church with her, all three on their knees, and this morning she went to Holy Communion for the first time in forty years.' That sort of thing happened time and time again and more than any thing else convinced Legion directors that Our Lady wanted to work through the ordinary person."

Prayer for the Beatification of the Servant of God Frank Duff

God our Father, You inspired your servant Frank Duff with a profound insight into the mystery of Your Church, the Body of Christ, and of the place of Mary the Mother of Jesus in this mystery.

In his immense desire to share this insight with others and in filial dependence on Mary he formed her Legion to be a sign of her maternal love for the world and ameans of enlisting all her children in the Church's evangelising work.

We thank you Father for the graces conferred on him and for the benefits accruing to the Church from his courageous and shining faith. With confidence we beg You that through his intercession you grant the petition we lay before You . ............... We ask too that if it be in accordance with Your will, the holiness of his life may be acknowledged by the Church for the glory of your Name, through Christ Our Lord,

 Prayer by Frank Duff

"Oh, my God, I do not ask for the big things

- the life of the missionary or the monk, or those others I see around me so full of accomplishment, I do not ask for any of these; but simply set my face to follow out unswervingly, untiringly, the common life which day to day stretches out before me, satisfied if in it I love You, and try to make you loved. Nature rebels against this life with its never-ending round of trivial tasks and full of the temptation to take relief in amusement or change. It seems so hard to be great in small things, to be heroic in the doing of the commonplace; but still this life is Your will for me. There must be a great destiny in it. And so, I am content. And then to crown the rest, dear Jesus, I beg you to give me this ,fidelity to the end, to be at my post when the final call comes, and to takemy last, weary breath in Your embrace. A valiant life and faithful to the end. A short wish, dearest Jesus, but it covers all. " "Can we be Saints" by Frank Duff, age 27 years. Published 1916

Prayer for the conversion of the whole world

( from St. Francis Xavier-adapted by Bro. Duff )

O Lord, our hearts are in Thy Hands. Thou canst bend as it pleases Thee the most obdurate and soften the most hardened. Do that honour this day to the Blood, Merits, Wounds, Names and inflamed hearts of Thy Beloved Son and His Most Holy Mother by granting the conversion of the whole world. Nothing less, my God, nothing less, because of Mary their Mother: because of Thy Might and Thy Mercy.

This prayer was said by Frank Duff every day over a map of the world.
