Extension Workers Working Within A Council Area

Concilium Legionis Mariae

Extension Workers Working Within a Council Area.

  • The Council can appoint such an Extension Worker, or Workers.

    • Concilium recommends that Councils, Senatus, Regia, Comitia, Curia think in terms of looking within their own membership for an Extension Worker, to work in their own council area.

  • Up to now we thought of an extension worker as being appointed for a year or more but now Concilium recommends that full-time Extension Workers, working within a council area, could volunteer for that period but also for a shorter time, even for a month ... However the appointment would be for a fixed time and any extension of that period would need the sanction of the council.

  • The Council in approaching the recruiting of an Extension Worker, should do this on an individual basis, having satisfied themselves that the prospective legionary has the necessary experience and dedication.

  • The extension worker should be free to undertake this work, that is, that this work should not interfere with a person’s obligation towards their family or adversely affect their future career or their ability to earn their living when their extension work is finished .. It would also be advisable and desirable that 1egionaries undertaking extension have a medical check up before setting out.

    • The role of the Extension Worker is mainly to break new ground. It would not be wise to use an extension worker as a visitor of existing praesidia or councils. This is the responsibility of the council and its members.

  • The appointment of an Extension Worker would not take away the responsibility which the council and its members have for extension. The appointment of a full-time Extension Worker implies that there is a field of work which could not easily be tackled in the normal way by members of the council.

  • The role of an extension worker is different to that of the appointment of an organizer for the Peregrinatio Pro Christo.

    • The Extension Worker would work under the instruction from the Council and would report regularly to whoever is assigned by the Council as his/her correspondent. The Correspondent would keep the Council body advised of progress.

  • On setting out on the work, the Extension Worker would be given a letter of introduction, signed by the Council President which would identify him/her to a Bishop or priest, etc.

  • The expense of an Extension Worker - travel, accommodation, maintenance, would be met by the council - and these Extension Workers do aim at keeping expenses as low as possible.

  • In the event of the Council not having the finances to do this, recourse can be made to Concilium, prior to the appointment of the Extension Worker, and Concilium will study the Council's plan and prospects, and then make a decision on providing finances.
