that stuff you can kind of Google so check it out here are the eight UC personal insight questions youve seen these before probably already if youve opened up your UC app or if you googled UC personal insight questions but theyre asking for things like leadership show us your creative side whats your greatest talent or skill whats the significant educational opportunities that youve been through or is there an over an educational barrier youve had to overcome whats the most significant challenge youve been through and how to affect your academic achievement six whats an academic subject that inspires you and important how have you further this interest inside and or outside of the classroom and then community service how have you made your school or community a better place if those dont all work for you what else how can you help yourself stand out now the UCS quick brief history used to ask two really open-ended questions describe the world you come from how its shape your dreams and aspirations and basically tell us about the next your curricular activity or something else about you what about it makes you proud and how it relates to the person you are you dont have to write those questions the problem with those is that the UCS werent getting the kind of content that they wanted what do I mean by the content they wanted well they were why do you want to go to college essay getting essays that were essays there were more you know those sort of they felt more like English class essays more academic papers and they really just want students to answer the questions and more importantly the UCS have 14 things that theyre looking for did you know that theyre called the 14 elements of comprehensive review and if this is news to you why you can google this but here it is we are the 14 elements of comprehensive review you can find the ages by googling this and Im not gonna go through all of these right now because its the crash course but there are things like GPA test scores you know eligibility your local context how hard your classes were etc etc you can kind of see those here what Im highlighting in yellow are the elements that I think you can really use the personal insight questions to give a little more context on so for example if youve had an outstanding performance in what a more academic subject areas thats one of the things that they want to know about that helps differentiate you from the hundred and blank thousand students of line at UCLA for example oh and quick tip if youre applying to engineering at Berkeley math and science is important so you might consider you doing that for prom six achievements in special projects now this can mean many different things Ill share with you a couple in just a minute but a special project could be an app that you created or a particular volunteering experience or special projects pretty big special talents achievements and awards also why do you want to go to college essaypretty wide but they want to know how have you differentiated yourself or you first chair oboe or 17th chair oboe participation in educational programs that can be kind of broad it could be an internship youre a part of it could be a summer course that you took part in academic accomplishment in light of life experiences if youve had a really tough time of it like you had a lot of challenges youve faced but youve still done really well academically they want to know about that too so thats the brief like so heres the firt the main thing I want you to take away from this is like if youre trying to figure out should I put this in my essay sorry personal inside question ask yourself does this somehow come back to one of these elements of comprehensive review am i helping the UC reader mike whipping that reader with enough information to make a decision about how I am different from all the other students for example applying to my school from my school okay so always kind of come back to these
