promotional activities that the publishing house would want you to do stuff like that posting giveaways whatever right and then you get to the comparable book section and this is one of the parts of the book proposal that I struggle the most with because its not easy at all um you want to find out about five titles that were published within the last five years right um in your genre with a similar enough plot that theyre related or an aunt quite comparable to your books um it helps if they so like if they sold really well because that tells that publishing house that disjoin or is in right now um and then on top of that you also want to tell them how your book is different because now youre like hey my book is really similar to this but also its really unique and you should still publish it right so you want to tell them why your book should be published because its so unique that nobody else has done it before but you also want to prove that people have done it before which feels super contradictory and really complicated and backwards but thats the comparable book section I also tend to include the publisher of those comparable books the year they were published and the genres that those books fell into um to help the publishing house kind of have an idea of what were doing you can get all of that information really easily from Amazon sales pages Amazon is Amazon Goodreads are like my favorite tools for comparable book sections because it you help with essay writing can search by genre you can find similar books and find everything about them that you need to know and then on Goodreads too you can scroll down and find book reviews so if you havent read the book you can get kind of an idea of what the synopsis is so you can actually ID it you can know more if its actually similar to yours next section is the target market so that will be broken down into three groups youll have the primary audience the secondary audience and the tertiary audience and the primary audience is the most narrow its these are the people youre aiming for like if you were throwing a dart thats who youd want to hit um so those those were the people that are like teens like female teens interested in sewing and sword crafts now it would be a really interesting book and I want to see that now so if youve written a book about sewing and sword craft for female teens let you know anyway um so thats the primary audience thats really specific it helps narrow the field considerably okay secondary audience is kind of more along the lines of men and women who appreciate crafting and also martial arts right but were going with that idea so here we are and then the tertiary audience is like the very broad spectrum of anyone else who fits into these categories would probably enjoy this book okay and you can find more really broad categories and thatll help you want to kind of sum that up into one sentence for each thing okay then the next section is the help with essay writingsynopsis and the synopsis is one two three pages single-spaced of you explaining the plot of your book okay you could also do a chapter by chapter summary if that would be easier for you either one works you dont need both really um as an agent who looks through submissions I prefer the one two three page synopsis because I dont have a lot of time and if I want to give it if I want to get a handle on what happens in your book I dont really want to have to read every single chapter to find out just tell me heres the overarching plot heres a B plot that happens okay and then each time that you introduce a new character in the synopsis that characters name will be in all caps that just helps the reader know okay this is an important person thats only the first time now after that they can be a normal sentence case um essentially you go through the entire plot and through the entire book and you want that to be finished within three pages um three pages is kind of a sweet spot so if you can hit three pages youre doing well next if you want this book to be a series you have to include a series help with essay writing
