go and check out her video as well but yeah thats actually get into the essay routine if I look down or anything Im gonna try not to too much but Ive just made a load of notes because its quite like the methought I thought its quite methodical so I want to make sure Ive got everything so Ive just got my notes on my phone so essentially all my essays will always start with the primary reading obviously you want to get your idea from the actual text that youre reading obviously been in English you dont just read for the sake of reading so what Ill do is whilst Im reading a text Ill be consciously like picking out bits I find interesting so I always every time Im reading by have a pencil with me so Ill just go through and basically Ill just kind of underline bits and make little notes in like the margins basically anything that I find interesting some kind of imagery just anything that kind of stands out to me Ill underline it make notes on what I think is linking to as youre doing that throughout the text youll notice that there are certain like themes repeated images or yet things that youre kind of realizing thats probably quite interesting to you like I said as youre going through and youre kind of realizing all these things Im picking out on Ill kind of related to this kind of theme with this thing Im interested in thats obviously starting to collate a sense of an idea of what you want to write about so this is usually the point how to write a high school essay where I start to make notes as well it will be in the Notes app on my phone as Im like kind of highlighting bits and like writing little notes Ill start to think oh this might linked to this and I start to make like just really like brief little notes in the Notes app on my phone and then obviously those notes will get more refined as Im going through the text and I can pick out certain quotes and like write page numbers just like little scribbles basically on my notes just so I dont like forget anything so after that stage I usually have a bit of an idea what I think I want to talk about that will have come from the text so Ive been an original identity is quite a big thing and I feel like theres quite a lot of like fragmentation of identity and then obviously at that point you have started to refine the idea down thats when Ill start going into like critical reading or like secondary reading initially Ill kind of start to search things on the idea that Im thinking of simple google search JSTOR sure if you do like essay based subjects at university you probably know about JSTOR for like articles and that kind of thing all my like University Library like the kind of online archive Ill start to look on there there are pros and cons to this but sometimes they actually wont be much on the specific thing youre thinking about and then Ill just look for any kind of critical essays generally written on the texts all in the author sometimes that can actually be quite a good thing because actually how to write a high school essaythen you can look at what other people have written on in that way youve kind of established yourself as like being unique or like you could establish yourself within the critical field it can start to be like Oh a lot of you know critics look at this these kind of themes within the text however Im going to be looking at this and I think this is quite important even though other critics havent necessarily done so so already you can see that you are starting to develop a bit of an argument that might be the case where actually there is hardly any actual critical work on the author or the text thats still not something to worry too much about because you can still look at like interviews if there are any interviews with the author sometimes I even find that reviews kind of helpful and just to give me an idea of what people think about the tanks usually like if its like you know the newspaper reviews but like The Guardian theres a lot of reviews on especially lurk contemporary tanks theres not like massively you know like Shakespeare with hundreds and thousands of people have written on how to write a high school essay
