Uttar Gujarat Vij Company LimitedRegd. & Corporate Office, Visnagar Road, Mehsana -384001
This organisation was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 in September 2003. It emerged from the unbundling of the erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board following Power Sector Reforms. It operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, a Government of Gujarat undertaking. The organisation functions as a facilitator of electricity distribution efficiency across northern Gujarat. It does not generate power, nor does it operate transmission infrastructure directly.
Consumer Coverage
The organisation serves more than 38 lakh consumers across various categories, including residential, industrial, agricultural, and waterworks segments. Their operational network spreads over 50,000 square kilometres, covering six full districts and three part districts in western and central Gujarat. Their business affairs are managed through 127 Sub Division offices and 20 Division offices across four Circles. Corporate headquarters remain at Mehsana, offering centralised coordination.
Digital Billing
Their online consumer portal provides access to billing, payments, smart meter management, and account control from one secure location. Consumers can pay for single or multiple accounts simultaneously. The system generates estimated bills when meter access is unavailable, later updating figures once actual readings are recorded. The E-Bill registration feature allows consumers to receive bills electronically without physical delivery.
Smart Metering
The consumer portal allows users to access detailed smart meter data, analyse usage patterns, and track energy efficiency figures. This data-driven approach helps residential and commercial consumers understand consumption trends clearly. The smart meter management system reduces billing disputes and improves accuracy across billing cycles. Consumers gain transparency over each unit consumed through this structured digital access.
Grievance Redressal
A dedicated complaints section on their website accepts grievance submissions with account details and contact information for direct follow-up. Consumers can escalate unresolved issues to the Electricity Ombudsman, whose office operates from Ambawadi, Ahmedabad. The organisation runs a 24x7 toll-free helpline at 1800-233-155335, alongside WhatsApp support on 9825819121 for consumer queries. This multi-channel system strengthens accountability at each service level.
Renewable Integration
The organisation operates a Single Window Clearance System for renewable energy captive and solar projects under RE Solar categories. Consumers can also access solar rooftop subsidy schemes of up to ₹18,000 per kilowatt through the national solar rooftop portal. The PM-KUSUM Component B scheme further allows agricultural consumers to apply for standalone off-grid solar pump sets. These renewable facilitation efforts reflect a forward-looking approach to energy access in rural Gujarat.
Recognition Earned
The organisation received the First Prize under the category of Excellence in Rural Electrification at the IEEMA Power Awards in 2008. They also hold ISO 9001:2000 accreditation for the management and enhancement of electricity distribution operations. These recognitions reflect consistent operational standards maintained across their wide service territory.
