This organisation functions as a multimodal logistics facilitator across India. It does not handle freight directly. It does not perform shipping operations itself. Instead, it builds frameworks that allow cargo to move efficiently. It operates through a structured network of Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and Container Freight Stations (CFSs). These facilities give exporters and importers a single-window point for documentation, customs clearance, and container management.
ICD Operations
The organisation currently operates over 60 ICD and CFS locations nationally. Each ICD functions as a hub for containerised cargo coordination. Businesses access palletisation, container stuffing, and bonded warehousing at these locations. Customs authorities work within these premises directly. This reduces delays significantly for EXIM cargo movement. The hub-and-spoke model connects major terminals with satellite locations across hinterland regions.
Digital Infrastructure
The organisation has built a VSAT-based Terminal Management System across more than 54 locations. This system links field offices, regional centres, and the corporate head office. A web-enabled interface allows customers to raise queries and track container status online. The e-filing facility on the CCLS (Commercial and Customer Logistics System) at ICD Tughlakabad allows document submission digitally. The recently launched e-Forwarding Note feature further reduces paperwork at terminal entry points.
Mobile App Advantage
A dedicated Digital App supports end-to-end logistics coordination for businesses. The app allows users to compare tariffs from multiple empanelled road service providers. This competitive bidding feature helps businesses choose cost-effective first-mile and last-mile connectivity options. The app pulls data from multiple carriers and presents consolidated options to the user. This kind of data aggregation capability makes supply chain decision-making faster and more transparent.
Value Added Services
Beyond coordination support, the organisation facilitates several value-added services at their terminals. These include fumigation, container repair, LCL consolidation, and customs clearance assistance. Cold chain and reefer container management supports perishable goods movement. Air Freight Station management and Air Cargo Complex operations extend their reach beyond rail and road networks. Multimodal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) are currently under development at several locations across India.
Trade Corridor Connectivity
The organisation actively supports India's international trade through cross-border container train operations. They have signed agreements with Bangladesh Railways to facilitate cross-border container movement. The Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) is now part of their operational framework, allowing double-stack train runs. This significantly improves throughput capacity for port evacuation. Major ports, including JNP and Vallarpadam, connect directly to their ICD network.
Business Use Cases
Manufacturers, exporters, and importers across sectors rely on this organisation's infrastructure. Small traders benefit from LCL consolidation options at CFS locations. Large exporters use their factory stuffing and destuffing services directly at their premises. The organisation's customer feedback system allows businesses to report issues and monitor resolution. Their pan-India footprint across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal makes industrial corridor connectivity practically achievable for Indian businesses of all scales.
