The Rise of Femininity

Recently, there has been an increase in lacing femininity with everything a woman does. Many young women are taking to platforms to share their experiences in being a woman in today’s society and many also happily accept their feminine style or way of living. Despite this harmless way of expression being an outlet for women to express themselves and to heal, it has met a mix of backlash and support.
Many women have shared their experiences on apps such as TikTok. It is a universal experience for multiple women to feel an extreme disconnect towards their feminine nature due to how they are treated. Many women face discrimination or are singled out by their male counterparts and of course, phrases such as “run like a girl” “boys will be boys” or “scream like a girl” all set a barrier between men and women.
Men are set as being higher than women and thus stronger than women, which degrades how a growing girl will view herself. Of course, female figures are rooting for accepting femininity and being a woman, but when those figures are repeatedly bashed or sexualized for being successful, it further degrades the image of being a woman.
I also experienced an extreme disconnect from femininity. I went from enjoying makeup, princess dresses, and plastic heels to rugged, oversized clothes with dark colors. I went from dousing myself with pink to disposing of anything connected with it and all of this was simply chalked up to being a tomboy. While, of course, some simply do enjoy dressing that way, why were little girls shamed for dressing “like a man” when everyone around them made it feel shameful to be a girl? Currently, many influencers find comfort in dressing in pink or simply embracing small traditionally girly items to heal the perspective society created. But while these women can be a figure of comfort for other women, many others such as men or other women bash a feminine way of life. Comments can range from praise to atrocious violent sexual threats or even murder.
It is heartbreaking to see the degradation of feminine nature and how much society can show its hatred to women without anyone truly batting an eye. Though, despite all the backlash, women have only increased their feminine style without any shame. Hopefully, these influencers and figures will continue to inspire the next generation. Maybe one day, little girls will not feel ashamed of themselves and they may find the opportunity to dress how they wish and not how they feel they must dress to feel safe.
