From 8-11 p.m. on Friday, December 6th, students spiffed themselves up to attend the annual “Winter Wonderland Semi-formal” at The Lakes Banquet Hall Hosted by University Preparatory High School for a magical evening. The decor fit the theme with a dark atmosphere, decorated tables with snowflakes and festive table decorations, and of course, winter-themed treats and drinks. Many would say this night went off without any hiccups, especially with the excitement of the new meeting area. Those who attended will certainly attend again.
Approximately 100 students were in attendance, scattered around The Lakes Banquet, some chit-chatting outside and others dancing and snacking on the desserts provided. The dance floor was crowded with many students. There were speckles of white, silver, black, and other colors mixed among the sea of yelling and moving individuals and shifting colored lights. The songs ranged from upbeat to slower songs, allowing the students to cool off in between the songs they knew. After dancing, many students retreat to their seats or outside into the cool air to replenish their energy or to converse within their groups. The snack bar consisted of cookies with flavors of oatmeal, chocolate chip, and red velvet with the chocolate chip cookies being the biggest hit among students. There were also gingerbread cookies, Christmas cookies with sprinkles, cream puffs, eclairs, and delicious brownies.
Many also found entertainment in taking photos in front of the lake, pool, and patio with their friends and the silly accessories provided. But of course, at the end of the night, the UPHS tradition of dancing to “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey called everyone to the dance floor. The floor was electrified with the buzz of dancing and screaming of lyrics. One such student who had a splendid time was none other than Eve Harwick who said the semi-formal was “very cool” and that there was “good food!” She did a lot of dancing and even if she needed time to take breaks at times, she still got out there and had a delightful time. Overall, the Semi-formal was a smash and I am sure the next Semi-formal will draw students in once more for a night full of wonder!
