The first dance always starts the school year off strong. The first University Preparatory High School’s (UPHS) dance of the semester was held on August 15th, the second Friday of the semester. Thanks to the Naz Youth Center and its sponsorship, students were allowed to use the building and its amenities. UPHS students could play with their foosball table, games, and a television with a PlayStation and controllers, along with so much more to keep them entertained throughout the night. One of our seniors, who attended the dance, spent most of her time on the dance floor. She said, “It was so colorful, decorated, and eventful. I never miss a dance!”
The DJ played several hit songs that spanned a vast amount of music genres, making it hard not to have a blast throughout the night. Some favorites that the disc jockey played were “Sodapop,” by Kpop Demon Hunters; “Not Enough,” by Kendrick Lamar; and “Manchid,” by Sabrina Carpenter. The combination of booming music and flashing LED lights created a fun and visually appealing atmosphere.
Many volunteers and parents helped make it all happen, spending their free time helping our school put on a dance. The volunteers at the snack bar offered a variety of snacks and drinks, including candy, Gatorade, chips, cold soda, bottled water, and freshly made pizza, to help keep the students and teachers hydrated and content as they danced the night away. The dress code was casual, with most UPHS students wearing casual school clothes, nothing too fancy for the icebreaker. Some wore dresses that matched the heat outside, pairing well with the vibe and weather. It was quite hot outside, with a high of 103 degrees Fahrenheit. The fans placed around the vicinity helped cool people off as they played board games on the tables outside or checked out of the dance.
