You just got your first car. Congratulations! I bet you are excited to drive around town with your family and friends. Wait a second, it’s a pretty old car. But not just any car! You got a hold of a 1979 Ford Bronco in mint condition. Lucky you! The only downside is that it has a manual transmission, and you have no idea how to control it. Well, you are in luck, because I am going to tell you how to drive a manual transmission.
The first step to driving a manual car is to be sure your car is in neutral. If it is not, move the gear selector to the center of the shift boot. To know it is placed in the right position, wiggle the stick. Next step, look at your feet and find the three pedals. The clutch will be located in the farthest left. Place your foot on the clutch, and push to the floor. Then, grab your key and identify the ignition. It should be located on the right of the steering wheel. Insert the key, rotating clockwise halfway, to allow the sensors to read. After that, turn it as far as possible. Disengage the handbrake, reapply pressure onto the clutch, and move your gear selector into first gear. Slowly release pressure off the clutch, and you will begin to feel the car move. Remember that you can stall your car, which is completely fine. It will not damage your vehicle; repeat the process.
Well done! You know how to drive a manual car. Now you can show off to your friends, as well as the benefit of driving. Remember to be safe and patient. It’s always better to be angry and have a car than to be angry and have nothing.
