Project Overview
MATJE Construction has been retained to perform grading and earthwork for a high school campus project. The project area encompasses 16,800 m2 field. The school will remain fully functional during the course of the project and the MATJE Construction team will ensure any inconveniences to school activities are addressed throughout the project.
The grading project has been divided into 4 sections as follows:
The project is located in Guangzhou, China.
Construction work will be completed on weekdays only from 7 am to 4 pm. No work will be completed on weekends, at night or during any Chinese Statutory Holidays.
2019 Statutory Holidays for which work will be discontinued :
- Mid Autumn Festival - September 13, 2019
- Chinese Golden Week - October 1 to 7, 2019

Resource Utilization and Cost
Resource Utilization and Cost
Construction work for the grading will be completed by 2 separate crews working simultaneously in different areas onsite to decrease project completion time. The crews will be comprised of the following equipment and personnel listed below for each activity on the project:
- 1 excavator with an operator and 1 helper
- 1-10 haul trucks with operators
- 1-4 dozers with operators
The number of trucks and dozers varies based on the activity to maximize resource usage efficiency, and to reduce the direct cost for the project. The trucks will be used to dispose of excess earthwork to a disposal site located 30 km away for the job site. The number of trucks used per crew was capped at 10 to decrease project cost and reduce traffic disruption in the surrounding area.
To provide an idea of the total scope of the project we've provided some projected quantities below:
- Total earth excavated = 7,230 m3
- Total earth disposed offsite = 5,980 m3
- Average Crew Productivity = 63.0 m3/hr
- Total grading hours = 270 hr
The total construction cost for the project is estimated to be approximately $810,000.
Environmental Considerations
Environmental Considerations
Environmental and noise pollution are of the utmost concern to MATJE Engineering, and we have implemented several strategies to ensure the project is as environmentally friendly and non-disruptive to the public as possible. Some of these strategies include:
- Nearby facilities and residents will be notified of construction dates in advance
- Hybrid construction vehicles will be used wherever possible to reduce noise and pollution
- Noise monitoring daily around the construction site to ensure minimal disruption for nearby residents
Safety Measures and Hazard Mitigation
Safety Measures and Hazard Mitigation
MATJE Engineering has made every effort to ensure the project is as safe as possible in every stage. Some of the safety measure we have implemented include:
- High visibility signs installed along entire length of fence to alert public of construction nearby
- Security gates at construction site to prevent trespassing
- Jersey barriers installed along the eastern road to allow for safe temporary pedestrian access across north and south sides of campus. Speed limit reduced to 20 km/hr.
