Project Background



  • To design a grading project for a high school campus
  • Project location: Guangzhou, China
  • Site area: 16770.13 m2
  • 4250 m2 to be hauled off-site


Safety Considerations




  • Staff will be properly trained
  • Standard practices to be followed to ensure safety on and around the construction site
  • Regular check-ups to be conducted on site
  • Site supervisor present at all times
  • Mandatory PPE on the construction site




Traffic Considerations




  • Reduced speed limits around the construction site
  • Temporary signage will be installed to reflect these changes
  • Extra consideration will be given during peak hours
  • Flagmen to be present for the passageway during school hours



Environmental Considerations




  • Use quieter (low-noise) equipment
  • Use absorptive materials to reduce reflected sound
  • Water truck present on site to keep haul roads damp
  • Regulate low speed on rough roads (could help reduce dust as much as 22%)

Project Schedule

The grading portion of the project commenced on Monday, September 2, 2019 and is expected to end on September 24, 2019.

Project Cost


  • Excavator productivity is the limiting factor for all jobs
  • Standby crew is not considered in cost calculations
  • Contingency is set at 15%
  • Total Bid Price = $849,429.88



Crew Utilization

  • 2 crews are required to complete the entire project
  • The entire site is split in 4 sections with each crew grading 2 sections
  • Crew 1 consists of 1 excavator, 11 dump trucks and 3 dozers
  • Crew 2 consists of 1 excavator, 12 dump trucks and 3 dozers
