Job Sequencing

Job Sequencing

The jobs were first established by sequencing them using an earth-moving plan that divided the entire area into 4 separate stages. The plan made it possible to see which jobs had to follow each other and which ones were able to be done simultaneously. This plan is introduced in the slides on the left. The full Job sequence can be seen in the "Job Sequence" tab of the spreadsheet at the bottom.

Productivity

Productivity of machinery was established using cycle times. It was decided that each job would only utilize either dozers or dump trucks based on the distances that the soil for that job would need to travel. The Green stage utilized dump trucks since all the soil in that area would go to waste, so using dump trucks bypassed the need to use the temporary soil waste storage, taking the soil directly to permanent storage. The other stages all used dozers, since they were mostly transporting soil within the site, or to temporary storage. The moving of soil from temporary storage to permanent storage at the end of the project will also be done by dump trucks. This way of separating the machine utilization is financially beneficial because the first half of the project only requires dozers, so dump trucks do not need to be rented, and vise versa for the second half. The individual job productivity can be seen in the "Productivity" tab of the spreadsheet at the bottom.

Crew Component Outline

Crew Productivity

Each crew is made up of at least one excavator, and a maximum of two crews will be working the project. The starting Red stage when the access path through the site is being established there is only need on one crew due to the low soil excavation quantity. Once the Purple stage begins, one crew will focus on that area, while the other crew moves through the other three stages. When the purple stage finished, the excavator from the crew working on that stage will be move to join the other crew, bring crew productivity up, and more dump trucks will be needed to meet the higher productivity. These changes can be seen in the "Crew Productivity" tab of the spreadsheet at the bottom.
