WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT?
Engineering is vital to very day life, it shapes the world in which we live and its future. Scottish engineers and inventors have produced some of the most important advances of the last two centuries. This exciting course will develop technological skills that are relevant to several different areas of engineering.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE IN S3:
The S3 Engineering Science course will build on and extend from the work in S1 and S2 which is based on the 3rd Level Experiences and Outcomes. The course will cover the 4th Level experiences and outcomes relating to Engineering. The course will be a mixture of practical project based work and theory. Projects will include electronics, programmable control, mechanical and renewable energy engineering topics. You will use the knowledge, information and skills you gain to design and produce solutions to technological and engineering problems from the real world. This course is a ‘problem solving course’, with a mixture of analysing real world technology, learning and applying maths and technology theory and experimenting with practical work.
Note: This course will involve challenging mathematical work and you should only choose this course if you are confident working with and solving maths problems.
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
Teachers will gather evidence of progress as part of day-to-day learning. Specific tasks will also be set to assess progress at key points of learning. This will involve completing a topic based project.
