Pupils studying at Level 2 or 3 are assessed internally, they must pass all course units to be awarded a National 2 or 3 award.
Pupils studying subjects at National 4 level must pass all units and must also sit an internally marked Added Value Unit which is assessed as pass or fail.
Subjects taken at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher have an Added Value unit which usually takes the form of an externally marked exam and /or assignment or portfolio.Â
External course assessment is set nationally by the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and external assessment grades are A, B, C, or D.
