Pupils would benefit from having good mathematical skills. Ideally pupils would have National 5 Maths or are confident they will get a good grade in National 5 Maths this year.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The National 5 Accounting course aids learners advance skills in communicating essential financial info to various stakeholders and organisations. It combines the practical and theoretical elements of learning accounting.
Accounting is a key function in many organisations. Effective accounting procedures can provide timely and relevant information to management, helping organisations perform successfully. The course encourages learners to think logically and apply accounting principles in. Studying accounting can open many doors down the line, with a number of attractive job opportunities should it be a subject you flourish in.
The course comprises two areas of study:
Financial accounting
Learners develop skills, knowledge and understanding to prepare, interpret and analyse financial accounting information by using the relevant accounting concepts and techniques. This information is used by stakeholders to assess their organisation’s current financial position.
Management accounting
Learners develop skills, knowledge and understanding of internal accounting information, and are able to prepare this using a range of basic accounting techniques. This information is used by management when making decisions about the future planning and control of their business.
Assessment
· Question Paper (130 marks) – 2 hours.
· Assignment done on IT (50 marks) – 2 hours. Completed before the main exam diet.
WHAT WILL MY HOME COMMITMENT BE FOR THIS COURSE?
Regular homework will be set by the class teacher. Students can expect to be doing at least 1 hour of study per week which will include a selection of: End of Topic formal homework , Consolidation of notes from previous week /Completion of exercises as home practice.
