WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT?
Learning a new language allows you to make connections with different people and their cultures. Language is at the core of thinking. You reflect, communicate and develop ideas through language. Studying Gaelic will deepen your knowledge and understanding of Scottish culture and heritage.
The recent revival in the Gaelic language means there are now more career opportunities for people who can speak it, for example teaching, the performing arts, media and literature and on TV and radio.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE IN S3:
Pupils work on topics from the Contexts: Society, Learning, Employability and Culture and continue to develop their skills in Reading, Listening, Talking and Writing. They will also be working towards completing N3 units. By the end of the year, they will have the skills necessary to continue Gaelic (learners) to National 5 and further. Pupils will get a chance to practise their listening, talking, reading and writing skills throughout each lesson focusing on a range of topics of interest to them. We will also be looking at Gaelic culture throughout the year.
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
The N3 Gaelic (learners) elements will be assessed throughout the year via unit assessments. In addition there will be unit assessments after each unit of work over and above the N3 units qualification.
