The SCQF Framework is Scotland’s lifelong learning framework – designed to help people of all ages and circumstances to access appropriate education and training over their lifetime, so as to fulfil their personal, social and economic potential.
It helps people understand qualifications and how they relate/compare to one another, It helps people plan their learning and provides a mechanism for making better informed choices.
It recognises people’s learning and gives them credit for what they’ve achieved. This means that it can support credit transfer.
The diagram below sets out how our current qualifications relate to what you, as parents/carers, may have sat when you were at school.
As you can see in the diagram there are far more possible pathways and opportunities for progression now for young people than 20/30/40 years ago.
More information for parents can be found in the SCQF guide for parents and carers
