COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is to motivate and challenge pupils by enabling them to select and apply mathematical techniques in a variety of mathematical and real-life situations. Learners will develop mathematical reasoning skills and will gain experience in making informed decisions.
Expressions and Formulae (National 5)
The outcome covers the development of skills which include the manipulation of abstract terms, the simplification of expressions and the evaluation of formulae. It also covers aspects of number, algebra, geometry and reasoning.
Relationships (National 5)
The outcome covers the development of skills which include solving and manipulating equations, working with graphs and carrying out calculations on the lengths and angles of shapes. It also covers aspects of algebra, geometry, trigonometry and reasoning.
Applications (National 5)
The outcome covers the development of skills which include using trigonometry, geometry, number processes and statistics within real-life contexts. The outcomes cover aspects of these skills and also skills in reasoning.
Assessment
Students are assessed by a final examination at the end of the year. This examination makes up 100% of the final mark. The final examination comprises two papers:
