A pass at National 5 PE at A or B is highly recommended.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course offers you the opportunity to study Physical Education at a challenging level and to build on previous skills and performance. It makes an important contribution to a balanced education and may help you to progress to further education or employment. The course aims to develop individual abilities and to enhance your personal and social development.
Performance Skills - Through a wide range of different activities within the school curriculum the pupils will improve and develop their practical performance to the appropriate level in a variety of different activities.
Factors Impacting on Performance (FIP’s) - Pupils have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the FIP’s; including development of personal performance, and evaluation of the development process.
Assessment
The Course Assessment consists of two different practical One Off Performances in two different activities (50%) and a written exam (50%).
These One Off Performances can total up to a maximum of 60 marks which represents up to 50% of a candidates final grade. The One Off Performances need to be in activities which we as a department have expertise to assess internally. Please check therefore with the PE Department that your chosen activities are suitable for assessment in Thurso High School.
The written exam lasts two and a half hours and will assess the learner’s ability to integrate and apply knowledge and understanding from across the units. It is designed to assess applied knowledge, understanding and evaluation skills; up to a maximum of 50 marks which will represent up to 50% of a candidates final grade.
WHAT WILL MY HOME COMMITMENT BE FOR THIS COURSE?
Approximately 2 hours per week will be the minimum expected throughout the year. Students will be encouraged to participate in physical activity out with school hours to aid and support their development and understanding, especially in areas of analysis and development of performance.
