COURSE DESCRIPTION
This Unit is designed to provide the candidate with skills in understanding, analysing, evaluating and using complex, formal English in a range of written and spoken forms.
This Unit is about using your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in complex situations in your personal life, at work, and in education.
L6 Communication develops skills learned in National 5 English to further progression towards studying Higher English.
COURSE ASSESSMENT
All course components will be assessed in class as the learner progresses through the Unit – these outcomes will include:
Reading
Candidates will be asked to read an extended piece of non-fiction writing. They would then demonstrate that they understand the piece of writing by producing a short report, or by their teacher asking questions and making notes or a recording of what the candidate said.
Writing
Candidates will produce a document (or a series of related documents) totalling at least 650 words that presents, analyses, and evaluates a substantial body of information, and/or develops an opinion in relation to an issue that is explored in depth. If the candidate produce a series of related documents, one of these must contain no fewer than 500 words. These document(s) can be handwritten or word-processed
Speaking and Listening
Candidates will play a significant part in a discussion or give a short talk to one or more people on a complex topic. Teachers will observe candidates and make notes or a recording. Candidates should also keep a brief record explaining the situation (for example, who was present, what was being discussed, and what was the purpose of the discussion). This record might include any plan the candidate developed for their presentation/discussion
