COURSE DESCRIPTION
The aim of this course is motivate and challenge pupils by enabling them to select and apply mathematical techniques in a variety of mathematical situations, Learners will acquire and apply operational skills necessary for exploring mathematical ideas through symbolic representation and diagrams. In addition, learners will develop mathematical reasoning skills and will gain experience in making informed decisions.
Expressions and Functions (Higher)
The outcome covers the development of knowledge and skills that involve the manipulation of expressions, the use of vectors and the study of mathematical functions. It also covers aspects of algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and also skills in mathematical reasoning and modelling.
Relationships and Calculus (Higher)
The outcome covers the development of knowledge and skills that involve solving equations and to introduce both differential calculus and integral calculus. It also covers aspects of algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and also skills in mathematical reasoning and modelling.
Applications (Higher)
The general aim of this Unit is to develop knowledge and skills that involve geometric applications, applications of sequences and applications of calculus. The Outcomes cover aspects of algebra, geometry, calculus, and also skills in mathematical reasoning and modelling.
Assessment
Students are assessed by a final examination at the end of the year. This examination makes up 100% of the final mark. The final examination comprises two papers:
• Non-Calculator
• Calculator
WHAT WILL MY HOME COMMITMENT BE FOR THIS COURSE?
Students can expect to be doing at least 2 hours of homework per week which will include a selection of, End of Topic formal homework, Consolidation of notes from previous week, Completion of exercises as home practice & Past paper practice.
