WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT?
Mathematics is a core subject. It is the essential building block which teaches the skills required across the curriculum and in everyday life. The study of Mathematics encourages logical thinking and offers practice in how to think analytically and to carry out problem solving.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE IN S3:
The S3 course is designed to develop the learner’s skills in using mathematical language and skills relevant to learning, life and work. It will build on prior learning and develop existing skills.
There will be a clear focus on:
· Numeracy
· Algebra
· Trigonometry
· Shape
· Measurement and
· Statistics
In S3 pupils will begin work towards National 4 or 5 Apps of Maths and/or National 4 or 5 Maths
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
Teachers will gather evidence of progress as part of day-to-day learning. Formative assessment will be used as appropriate in the classroom. Assessments will be in December & May.
POSSIBLE CAREERS!
Most career paths, including apprenticeships, nursing and primary teaching, are dependent on a Mathematics qualification. Some other examples of possible careers are actuarial science, chartered accountant, computer science, operations research, aeronautical engineer, systems developer, biomathematics, financial risk analyst, investment banker, cryptography, finance, robotics, statistician, teacher, meteorologist, and engineering.
