WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT?
Recreational Sports allows you to improve your overall practical performance in a wide range of different activities. This should develop your ability to transfer generic skills and apply them in a range of different sports. Sports Education allows students to be a part of a team, develop leadership skills and experience the role of being a coach.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE IN S3:
The course will allow you to improve your performance through a practical setting using a mixture of different drills. Pupils will experience a mixture of individual and team sports and learn about their strengths and weaknesses within these sports and how to apply tactics to maximise their performance.
Pupils will complete a project on a chosen sport or activity. The project will culminate in competitions being run that are relevant to the sport or activity being studied. Study of each sport or activity is likely to include:
· The history and rules;
· The worldwide appeal including specialist countries, competitions and players;
· The tactics and training methods involved.
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
Pupils will continually peer assess each other’s performance in order to gain a better understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. Pupils will be responsible for recording scores and keeping these for comparative analysis to check for improvements that have been made. The competitive nature of sport is such that pupils will be assessing themselves against their classmates continuously. Pupils will present the findings of their projects to the rest of the class using ICT. As an integral part of the Sport Education model pupils will experience a variety of different roles and responsibilities in order to allow each individual the opportunity to develop their confidence and competence within a sporting environment.
