The Music NPA course encourages students to show initiative, dependability, leadership and enterprise, fostering a work ethic and dedication to excellence.
There is no Composing element and no Listening element for this course.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course comprises only Performing elements:
Performing Skills
Pupils will refine their performing skills on their two selected instruments through regular practice and reflection. They will develop performing, technical and musical skills from level-specific music across a range of styles.
ASSESSMENT
Perform and reflect upon level specific music on two selected instruments (or voice):
Instrument 1: must be at Higher Level (ABRSM Grade 4 and above)
Instrument 2: must be at N5 Level (ABRSM Grade 3 and above)
During the course, pupils will:
· Keep a record of their Practice routine/schedule (what pieces have been practiced and next steps discussed with their teacher) every period.
· Set a Target for each Term (agreed with the teacher)
· Create a list of pieces chosen for their final performance.
· Write a short programme note (around 150 words) for one of their pieces.
· Perform their pieces in front of their teacher in a ‘live’ performance in March/April (this is not in front of a Visiting Examiner – as it is for the Higher Music course)
WHAT WILL MY HOME COMMITMENT BE FOR THIS COURSE?
A high level of self-motivation is required for the Music courses.
Ideally pupils should have: 15 - 20 minutes practice on each instrument every day.

Music helps to produce confident individuals through developing self-aware ness as they draw on their own ideas, experiences and feelings. Through music, pupils have rich opportunities to be creative and to experience inspiration and enjoyment.
