Science is vital to everyday life and allows us to understand and shape the world in which we live and influence its future. Scientists play a key role in meeting society’s needs in areas such as medicine, energy, industry, material development, the environment and sustainability. It is important that everyone has an informed view of science.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE IN S3:
The work in Science will continue to progress the work from S1 and S2 which is based on the 3rd Level Experiences and Outcomes. The S3 course revisits a selection of biology, chemistry and physics outcomes relating to areas such as Body Systems, Biodiversity, Chemical reactions, Periodic table, Electricity and Energy. The course seeks to further develop skills relating to both practical and research investigations.
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
Assessment in S3 science will focus on the pupil‘s knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts, problem solving, practical investigations, research investigations, scientific numeracy and literacy.
Teachers will gather evidence as part of day-to-day learning, while specific tasks will be set to assess progress at key points of learning.
