COURSE DESCRIPTION
The National 5 Gaelic Learners course offers you the opportunity to develop the skills of listening, talking, reading and writing In order to understand and use Gaelic.
In particular the Course aims to enable you to develop the ability to:
Read, listen, talk and write in Gaelic
Understand and use Gaelic
Apply knowledge of Gaelic
Plan, research and apply language skills
To achieve National 5, pupils sit externally marked exams in May.
Paper 1: Reading (30 marks) and Directed writing (20 marks)
Paper 2: Listening (20 marks)
Performance exam: This consists of a presentation (worth 10 marks) and a follow-up conversation (worth 20 marks).
Writing assignment: produced in class, but marked externally worth 20 marks.
To achieve the National 4 Gaelic learners Course, learners must pass all of the required Units, including the Added Value Unit.
Gaelic (Learners): Understanding Language—This unit provides learners with the opportunity to develop reading and listening skills in Gaelic and to develop their knowledge of straightforward language in the contexts of society, learning, employability, and culture.
Gaelic (Learners): Using Language - This unit provides learners with the opportunity to develop talking and writing skills in Gaelic, and to develop their knowledge of straightforward language in the contexts of society, learning, employability, and culture.
Added Value Unit: Gaelic (Learners): Assignment - This Added Value Unit is to provide learners with the opportunity to apply their language skills to investigate a chosen topic in a familiar context in Gaelic
WHAT WILL MY HOME LEARNING COMMITMENT BE?
Learning of vocabulary and grammar is crucial to make progress in a language, you will be expected to learn grammar concepts and do some exercises to apply the new concept. You will also be expected to learn key vocabulary on a regular basis. You will also be practising your listening skills using audio files and will prepare written sentences in order to help you prepare for written elements of the course.
