COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course aims to allow the students to further develop their French skills to a level of competence that will appeal to a range of students, whether they intend to follow a language course in higher or further education or not.
The course provides opportunities for students to develop further their skill of reading, discussion (written and spoken) and listening. The course involves an intensive study of the structure of the language and therefore involves the regular and thorough learning of grammar. Pupils will learn the new skill of translation as well as discursive writing. These differences can help them gain a deeper appreciation of their own way of life.
Learning a language gives training in working with others and helps practice good communication skills. It also helps pupils develop the skills and qualities needed to live and work in a European and global environment, contributing to their employability.
Pupils work on topics from : Society, Learning, Employability and Culture and continue to develop their skills in Reading, Listening, Talking and Writing.
Assessment
The Higher course is assessed by means of an external exam. This is made up as follows:
Paper 1 – Reading (30 marks); Directed Writing (20 marks)
Paper 2 – Listening (20 marks);
Performance exam in Talking in March. This consists of a presentation (worth 10 marks) and a follow-up conversation (worth 20 marks).
Writing Assessment, carried out in class but marked externally (20 marks)
What will my Home Learning commitment be?
Students can expect to be doing at least 2 hours of homework per week which will include the following: Revision of new vocabulary, Regular Reading exercises, Writing tasks, Preparation for the Speaking performance, Past papers
