COURSE DESCRIPTION
The aim of this course is to enable pupils to extend their mathematical learning from National 4 Applications of Mathematics. The course is to motivate and challenge learners by enabling them to think through real-life situations involving mathematics and to form a plan of action based on logic.
Through real-life context, pupils will learn how to draw conclusions, make and justify decisions.
Managing Finance and Statistics (National 5)
The outcome covers the development of skills that focus on the use of mathematical ideas and valid strategies that can be applied to managing finance and statistics in real-life contexts.
Geometry and Measure (National 5)
The outcome covers the development of skills that focus on the use of mathematical ideas and valid strategies that can be applied to geometry and measure in real-life contexts.
Numeracy (National 5)
The outcome covers the development of learners’ numerical and information handling skills to solve real- life problems involving number, money, time and measurement.
Assessment
To gain the course award, pupils must pass the external course assessment which is part of the SQA exam diet.
WHAT WILL MY HOME COMMITMENT BE FOR THIS COURSE?
Students can expect to be doing at least 1½ hours of homework per week which will include a selection of: End of Topic formal homework/Consolidation of notes from previous week /Completion of exercises as home practice.
