WHY STUDY THIS SUBJECT?
Modern Studies is a subject unique to the Scottish secondary school curriculum, which is concerned with the study of local, national and international issues from a social, political and economic perspective. It is about looking at people and the way they interact with each other, how the world is run and how things can change and influence what happens to us. In a fast changing and competitive world, young people must be given the chance to reflect on the challenges facing society today if they are to be part of the solution for tomorrow.
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE IN S3:
The work in Modern Studies will build on and extend from the work in S1 and S2 which is based on the 3rd Level Experiences and Outcomes. The course will cover the 4th Level experiences and outcomes. Pupils will study the following topics: Troubled Nations, China and the USA.
ASSESSMENT APPROACHES:
Teachers will gather evidence of progress as part of day-to-day learning. Specific tasks will also be set to assess progress at key points of learning.
